My interest in motorcycles is inherited from my father who rode as a dispatch rider for the Army and then went on to win lots of Trophies as a trials Rider. (R.I.P Dad, Donald Phillip Stanton.)
First bike i owned (£10.00) was a BSA Goldstar attached to a sidecar chassis to avoid the licence restriction for new riders.
It was a bit of a dog with a cracked case and subsequent oil leak. The sidecar made turning right ok ish, turning left scary :-).
Bike two was a Honda CB200 followed by horrible Yamaha 175, it this point i discovered the benefits of a Ford Zodiacs and bench seats so no more bikes until married. Yamaha 535 virago was next, it taught me that high bars and speed is not a good combination. Then came a ZZR600 pocket rocket, fast but hated the gearbox, i swear you could hear it clunk into second from five miles.
Traded it for a CBR1000F a fantastic motorcycle, there is always a car/bike/truck you regret parting with, for me it is the CBR. Doing my bit to help raise two gorgeous little girls required multi seat transport again and so a twenty five year hiatus begins.
So twenty five years later an impulse drew me to a 1988 GL1500 Goldwing, something about being a trucky I think, its hard to go small ;-) Liked it but its age ment maintenance was a bit full on so about three years later sold it and bought an 06 GL1800, the bike I still have and ride.
The clip above is riding over the bridge at Sonning on Thames England.
Out for a therapy ride May 2023. Often use this short section of motorway as its close to my home and good for getting some heat into my tyres.
